Union Square Music Hall opened in 2016 as the anchor business in a 50,000 square foot mixed use development. We closed our doors in 2024 for several reasons but mostly because having small children and running a night club were impossible to balance. This project was incredibly rewarding and made an unmistakable impact on downtown Newark. My wife and I will miss the chaos of this place and sharing our favorite bands with the community. I look forward to returning full time to Earthwork Recording Studio and watching the next organization care for this beautiful space from a distance. We have so much gratitude to everyone who supported this venture, from city officials to local patrons, traveling artists and their agencies. We put on hundreds of shows but some of our favorites were artists such as Taj Mahal, Steven Paige (of the Barenaked Ladies), John Popper (of Blues Traveller), Leo Kottke, Son Volt, Jill Andrews, The Wailing Jenny's, David Ramirez, and so many more.
